The BIG Move

So Jalen is now sleeping in a twin bed, and we moved his baby furniture to "Sissy's" room. I was able to find bedding that was pretty similar to what he had before, so everything matches and looks great with all his new, multi-generational furniture (Devan's old bedroom suite). Funny story (not really) about why the cover is placed over the safety rail. The instant I turned on the video camera to capture Jalen's first moments in his new bed, he jumped down on his butt -- sitting with emphasis -- only before he landed he busted his face on the rail and bit through his top lip on both sides. He actually made teeth marks in the nylon covering. It was horrible (for me) and I will not be showing that video clip.

I couldn't get a picture of the stinker IN his bed because he was too busy doing this. It's kind of hard to tell, but his feet are in the air. When we were moving the furniture, we thought, "we should have taken the front off of the crib a long time ago and let him get used to this." But no, no we shouldn't have. This hasn't stopped since.

As I said in the last post, Jalen slept through the first night in his bed with no troubles and according to his normal schedule. But when he woke up, he had decided he was "BIG." So he insisted on eating breakfast at the table like a big boy.

The first nap was slightly more difficult. I put him in bed like normal, and then sat and read a few books. I told him it was time to go night-night, shut the door, and waited to see what happened. Of course, he opened the door, and I told him to go back to bed. The door stayed shut for a while, but I could tell that he opened the blinds and was dragging out toys. Eventually he opened the door again and was saying something to me that I didn't understand, so I went in and laid down in the bed with him. It took a while for him to relax, but when he was almost asleep I got up, and he took a good long nap by himself.

During his nap, I decided to take a shower and it kinda freaked me out when I heard Mace bark, and then footsteps running down the hall. Needless to say, I had a peeping tom visit me in the shower. I'll have to get used to the fact that he can come out of his room on his own when he wakes up! Then he decided that he needed to get in the bathtub. Or bathTUBE, as he says.

His favorite new place to play (when Sissy's door is shut) is in the armoire. He opens the doors and says "toys!" but there are never any in there because he always removes them and puts himself in there!

BIG!

We spent yesterday moving furniture between bedrooms and getting Jalen settled with his new (to him) Big Boy Bed. He recently discovered he could climb into our dining room chairs and sit at the table, professing, "BIG!" every time. So we put together his bed and told him how big he was when he crawled onto it.

Last night, we took him to his room, gave hugs and kisses, shut the door, and never heard a peep out of him! Maybe we were just lucky that he was tired. At about 7:30 this morning, I heard his door open and shut, and little feet pitter pattering down the hall looking for someone. Here's hoping every night goes as smoothly!

We are still arranging and getting settled, so pictures to come. Just had to share our one night success story!

McLeansboro Bound

Well, tomorrow's the big day. Devan and Jalen head to McLeansboro with Jake, leaving me and Mace here all by our lonesome. I see nights of carry-out restaurant dinners, staying up late, painting the nursery, and shopping trips that last as long as I want them to! Bonus: this weekend is tax-free weekend, so I would really be crazy NOT to shop! While I'm doing that, Jalen and Daddy get some bonding time, and I'll be SoIL bound Wednesday evening after work.

In the meantime til he arrives, here's a video of the last time we were home in June that cracks me up every time.

Take good care of my boys, McL, it'll be a long time til I see them again!
